Why your Mobile Phone Camera Is Better Than A Film Camera
We are living in a world of technology lovers. How often do you see people out and about taking pictures with their mobile phones, making the most of their SanDisk 32GB Micro SD’s? It’s not just retro film camera’s that have become obsolete to all but a few thousands vintage loving hipsters – even digital cameras have fallen by the wayside, replaced by the far more convenient, slim-line mobile phones. And with the ability to pack your device with great memory cards boasting loads of GB’s, you can keep tonnes of memories on your phone.
And that’s what it’s all about – making memories, telling stories, communicating. One of the major fall-backs of a classic camera containing film in the place of your mobile phone camera is that you cannot share them far and wide! How often have you been getting ready for a night out, unable to decide what to wear and so send a picture to your best gal pal via your mobile device? It goes without saying that a film camera can’t help you in that department! Advocates for film camera’s – those vintage loving hipsters – argue that taking a photo with your mobile phone robs you of a tangible, paper photograph, which simply is not the case. Take your pictures, make your memories and pop out the SanDisk 32GBMicroSDcard to take it to a photo kiosk. They will print you tangible photographs that you can hold or display accordingly! Of course memory cards come in a few shapes and sizes so if you find that your memory card doesn’t fit, don’t worry; a lot of these venues allow you to send your photo’s via Bluetooth to then be printed off. Voilà – a pretty picture you can hold in your hand and you didn’t have to carry about a chunky little camera packed with film.
Again, we would have to deal with those pesky hipsters arguing that you can’t get the same “effects” or “quality” utilising your phone’s memory card as opposed to the likes of an old retro number, but this again can be counter argued. Depending on your mobile phone device, there are tonnes of ways to shoot your memories using the sepia, black & white or even “old movie” buttons. Some phones even include the ability to make your photo’s look like they have been shot by a fish-bowl lens or even the extremely cool instagram effect – a favourite of these hipsters. Don’t worry if your phone doesn’t include these effects – with the massive popularity of mobile phone applications these days, you will even find tonnes of Apps that allow your little phone to embody all the cool effects of a retro film camera, the best being appropriately named The Hipstamatic! Again it’s just a case of you popping out your card or Bluetoothing your pics and you can then see them printed out, and usually for a much lower price than an old film camera. Or alternatively, upload the photos stored on your mobile device to Facebook – that’s where we all want to put them anyway!

There are lot of downsides on a camera phone, but there is one MAJOR upside: You usually always pack it with, ready to shoot in seconds. How often do you bring your digital camera? Only on special events or on vacation. And even if you bring it with you, you usually carry it in a backpack or whatever, so by the time you see something you’d like to shoot, you have to take off your backpack, get the camera bag out, get the camera out of the camera bag and shoot. Chances are good, what you wanted to film is already over! On the other hand you could just grab your phone and be ready to shoot in a couple of seconds. Quality might not be as good as with the camera (but “not as good” on todays phones is still not bad) and have a “crappy” video instead of having no video at all!

I use my phone camera a lot. But more if I suddenly want to take a picture of something.
If I go somewhere for sightseeing or on a holiday/trip I bring my digital camera.
Most normal phones only have digital zoom and an led flash. But we’ve come a long way from the phones where your face in the picture consisted of 10 pixels.

The best benefit of mobile phone camera is that you don’t have to carry extra any thing. You just carry the mobile phone and so that the phone’s camera too.

Thanks Guys.
I appreciate your comments. I understand and we all agree that the time of the digital camera is not over, far from over. But the mobile phone camera is running fast to perfection and it is a really good replacement in some situations. That may even drive the digital camera industry leaders to present us with even better products. Competitions has always been good for business and users.
Looking forward to some more comments.

Nice explanation Biljana. I use my Galaxy Fit for taking pics. Technology is advancing rapidly. Who knows, a better substitute to phone camera may also be developed.

I do not have a smart phone or an iphone but my cheap phone will take decent photos. I do have a nikon digital camera that does take wonderful pictures and I have the ability to remove the sd card and download the photos to the computer and print this picture or email that picture. I agree that the camera is a lot bigger and clumsier than a cell phone but I still prefer the nikon camera for real good photos.

My camera and my phone’s camera are both 8 megapixels. However, I carry around my phone and prefer taking pictures with it because it really is better! The pictures come out better, and plus it’s a phone so there are more uses than just a camera.

Are people actually still using film cameras? I think the cost savings alone on not having to buy film puts it in the mobile phone’s favor. Plus you always have you mobile phone with you, so you can take candid shots.

Cameras in phones are advancing day by day and its one of the features people consider when buying a mobile phone. Photos from DSLRs unmatched with these but they are continuously evolving. I’m having a BB and wish they came with a good camera like in Samsung S.

It’s so crazy to think how things have changed. I remember when the first camera phones came out with 0.3 megapixel resolutions, now look! You can have a phone with a 12 mega pixel camera!
Unless I was a professional photographer then I wouldn’t need any other bit of tech than my phone to be honest with you.
