Nokia N9 – Last MeeGo Phone

Nokia N9 the new sensation is the last smartphone from Nokia which shipped with MeeGo OS as Nokia has already canceled MeeGo and opted for Windows OS for Mobile Phones. Nokia has developed some of the most used mobile handset in the world with there official Software but its time to say goodbye. N9 is no doubt one of the most beautiful handset made by Nokia ever. Although its not the slimmest phone nor it has glossy looks but the big touch screen and unibody design will automatically attracts you. With just 116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm in dimension and weighs only 135 grams you can own this beast in just $550.

Screen Size and Design

As said earlier Unibody design and no metal this time. All phone is made up of polycarbonate plastic which is no ordinary plastic. The body can take a few knocks and mainly scratch proof. No paint problem with this body and even if you try to deep scratch you won’t see any thing except the same color body. You cannot replace the battery in this model with micro-SIM and all connectivity options are hidden under the cover at the top of the phone. Screen size is 3.9 inches AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors for sharp and detailed images. Multi-Touch screen with resolution 480 x 854 pixels equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass and Anti-glare polariser makes it perfectly visible in sunshine as well as in dark.

Processor and OS

N9 is built for power and performance that’s why Nokia has shipped 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor in it. Although with growing technology it may sound less but infect you will not feel slowness or any jerks while browsing. After running so many applications we have seen not a single decrease in performance and i think that’s a key to the success of this model. Operating System used by Nokia is MeeGo version 1.2 Harmattan which will be used last time and soon will become history.

Camera

Although it has only 8 mega Pixel camera with resolution of 3264×2448 pixels but what makes it special is Carl Zeiss optics lens. Quality of photos taken by its camera are stunning and with new enhanced dual LED flash light its 20% more brighter light will take pictures in low light as well. Other features of camera are Geo-tagging, face detection and touch-focus. You can also capture high quality video of 720p at 30 frames per seconds.

Memory

Believe it or not it has no memory card slot at all. I wonder what’s the reason behind this but it comes with two built-in memory models of 16 and 64 GB storage with 1 GB RAM which is i think more than enough.

Connectivity

As you can expect in high end smartphone all major connectivity options are available in this model. Starting from Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE and microUSB.

Other features and Colors

Main features include web browser with WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML5, RSS feeds support, A-GPS support, Ovi Maps, TV-out, Dolby Digital Plus, Accelerometer, proximity, compass and face detection. Standard Li-Ion 1450 mAh battery with stand-by time of Up to 380 hours, Talk-time of Up to 11 hours and Music play back time of Up to 50 hours. It comes in a four colors Black, Cyan, Magenta and Glossy white.

Conclusion

When it comes to touch screen smartphone the gadget instantly came into our minds in Apple iPhone but after releasing N9 Nokia has shown that they are not left behind in this race. Large Touch screen with powerful camera and new body design Nokia N9 is ready to rock the world.

  1. Nokia N9 is looking good. why It is the last Meego cell phone?

  2. Thanks Ali for clearing out the doubts. Good to see you here.

  3. Thanks for the info. I didn’t aware that meeGo has been discontinued.

  4. great post. I didn’t know too about this dicontinuation of meeGO. RIP meeGo.

  5. I actually like the look of this phone a lot!
And it not being super slim is not a problem. I think we have already reached a point where the phone is thin and light enough, it doesn’t have to become thinner. But Sony, htc, apple and samsung are definitely still in the race to make a thinner phone. If in stead they would try to save space and fill that saved space up with a bigger battery (as the technology for batteries is not improving that fast).
How awesome would it be to have a cool smart phone that can actually last longer than a day on one battery 🙂

  6. I think that Its kind of cute to have this Meego phone, but its kind of sad that it is already obsolete. to be honest I never seen this phone in my life, I hope that I can still see some people who uses this.

  7. I think that looks like a very nice phone but like kate said I don’t think that I have ever seen anyone with that phone. Its a shame though my first phone ever was a nokia and to this day it was still more reliable than any of the phones ive had recently.

  8. Well, dont know why, but i still give my love for nokia than any other phone publisher (including Apple), but if they give up Symbian and Meego, they can no longer compete with other Androids phone.

  9. Well Nokia N9 with Meego is best of the best Nokia. First this is Linux which is lights years ahead from all Lumians with Windows. N9 is new standard of comfort and if you can you should try it. MeeGo has been discriminated due to agreement with Microsoft and fact that CEO Stephen Elop is former Microsoft employee. But after Lumias has failed in many market cause of several problems with windows OS it is comming back as MeeGo Meltemi. N9 is MeeGo Harmattan version, so it is not so dead as it was told. And N9 is almost perfect, best Nokia from 10 years and phone for everyone who just need reliable tool. This is also a small tablet as MeeGo Harmattan as the Linux can do much much more then any other device. This is my phone for nearest years. By aware choice, and it already has proved that was good decision to buy it.
