Benchmark Facebook Messenger “Chit Chat” Receives Long Due Update

The first desktop Facebook Messenger for Windows has received a long overdue update in this author’s opinion. When it was first launched back in 2009 the Messenger application received a substantial amount of publicity as it was the only software application that would allow you to connect to Facebook chat from your Windows desktop. That’s since changed; there are several applications that can perform this function.

Chit Chat for Facebook, the full name for this Facebook Messenger app, has long been heralded as the benchmark application for applications that incorporate the ability to connect to Facebook chat. It had been a benchmark due to its reputation of reliability and feature rich interface. However, it’s lacked a significant update in sometime and recently, as you may be aware Facebook launched its own Facebook Messaging application.

So, what’s been added to Chit Chat for Facebook in the recent update?

Often you’ll find yourself waiting for a particular Facebook friend to sign into the web’s favourite chat network, keeping an eye out for a friend is a little bit annoying. Chit Chat has launched a rather useful feature that lets you know every three minutes which of your friends has logged in or out.

According to the developers, the rational for it being every three minutes is because “that’s how Facebook chat works” – i.e. it refreshes your Facebook chat online status every three minutes.

Buddy List Images
Simply put, the Facebook Messenger application shows you small images of your friends on your buddy list so you can more easily identify them.

Interface Update
Now the Messenger software has its own character and identity to add to its vast array of features. The familiar light blue theme has been replaced by a blue and orange gradient which adds character to the Facebook Messenger app.

Always On Top
Desktop instant messaging is often the preferred method by which to communicate online as it is easier to multi-task using different software applications than on different tabs or windows within a browser application.

That said, it’s often handy to keep important conversations “on top” such that you can more easily see what’s being communicated.
With one click of a button, you can keep your instant messages or/and your Facebook buddy list on top on your screen.

Connectivity Enhancements
Regular users of Facebook will be familiar with the frequent changes that Facebook make. These changes have often affected Facebook chat without any notice given to the developers of Facebook Messenger applications – as such, most of them have had connectivity problems at one time or another.

In order to combat this frequent issue, Chit Chat for Facebook have incorporated a dynamic connectivity Facebook chat component that can be automatically updated remotely with no need to uninstall or reinstall.
